DEVELOPING STORY: At least 14 people have been shot and three people have been killed across Memphis since Friday. Among those killed were two juveniles and a man who opened fire on Memphis police officers. Two juveniles were shot and killed in Hickory Hills.

“The policies set forth by our city leaders have turned Memphis into a war zone,” said KWAM host Todd Starnes. “We don’t need more community centers or playgrounds or athletic stadiums. We need more police on the streets and District Attorney Steve Mulroy needs to declare war on the criminals, not the victims.”

Starnes said even that won’t stop the violence that has made Memphis one of the most dangerous cities in the nation.

“Parents must step up and take responsibility for their children,” he said. “It doesn’t take a village to raise a child. It takes a mother and a father.”

Suspect Killed After Firing on Officers

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says MPD was attempting to make a traffic stop around midnight near American Way. The driver went off-road and landed in a grassy area near Cochese Avenue. At least three masked men fled the car. A fourth opened fire on a police officer. The officer fired back, killing the gunman. The dead suspect is identified as Jaylin Keshawn McKenzie, 20-years-old from Atlanta. The officer was not injured. The TBI is handling the investigation.

5 Shot in Binghampton

A mass shooting in north Memphis at an apartment complex critically injured five people. Police say the shooting stemmed from a domestic incident. The suspect is known to the victims, but is not in custody. The attacker fled the scene in a white Infiniti.

Local residents say they are sick and tired of the violence.

“It scared me when I looked out there last night,” one resident told Fox 13. “I said. ‘Oh Lord, what in the world’s going on?’”

“It makes you not want to go anywhere but to work or back home to your house because there is so much shooting going on,” said another.
