2 Shelby County Sheriff Deputies Seen in Tyre Nichols Footage on Leave

Sheriff Floyd Bonner, Jr. announced Friday night two Shelby County Sheriff’s Office deputies were “relieved of duty” pending an investigation after they were seen in the brutal Tyre Nichols bodycam footage.

“Having watched the videotape for the first time tonight, I have concerns about two deputies who appeared on the scene following the physical confrontation between police and Tyre Nichols,” Bonner, the first African American sheriff in the county, tweeted.

“I have launched an internal investigation into the conduct of these deputies to determine what occured and if any policies were violated,” he added. “Both of these deputies have been relieved of duty pending the outcome of this administrative investigation.”
