Memphis Police also say a man was shot while waiting for an Uber in downtown Memphis Friday evening. That incident happened at Union Avenue near South Second Street.

Yellow crime scene tape was wrapped around the corner of the Peabody Hotel.

Police say the man was beaten by two suspects and then shot.

KWAM News Radio Memphis AM 990 listeners say they are beyond frustrated by the crime in downtown.

“You can’t even go downtown in daylight,” listener Angie Smith said. “This happened at 6:30 pm. Law enforcement is already preparing to charge one perp lightly by saying only one had a gun. Welcome to Memphis.”

“It’s a war zone,” said another. “This is what happens when you don’t get tough on criminals.”
