America looked to strike back at terrorism soon after 9/11. The CIA’s first unit to operate behind Taliban lines was named “Team Alpha.” Veteran foreign affairs correspondent Toby Harnden discussed them today on Wake Up Memphis.
Harnden recently released his book First Casualty: The Untold Story of the CIA Mission to Avenge 9/11. The book offers profiles of this eight-man band of American operatives and details some of their exploits against al Qaeda and the Taliban. He told Tim he still talks to some surviving members and offered a brief note on their thoughts in 2021.
