BBB Warns Of Plumbing Scams During Inclement Weather Conditions

The best time for scammers to operate is in the midst of hard times like the water crisis in Memphis, Daniel Irwin, Better Business Bureau of the Mid South’s communications director, told “Wake Up Memphis” Wednesday.

One common scam is when people randomly show up to homes and offer plumbing at very cheap prices.

“We’re all in need and we all want someone to come right now,” he said. “Legitimate plumbers are very busy right now. They’re not just going to show up at your door wanting to work, most of them have a very long waitlist.

He also encouraged listeners to ask questions ahead of plumbing services. Asking if they are a licensed plumber and proof of insurance are great ones to start with.

“There’s a difference between someone who knows some plumbing and a plumber,” Irwin said.
