BULLETIN: TVA Will Begin Rolling Blackouts Across Memphis Tonight

DEVELOPING STORY: Mayor Jim Strickland told KWAM NewsTalk Memphis tonight that TVA has decided to reinstate rolling blackouts across the city and county. The blackouts could happen as soon as 6 p.m.
The following statement was released by MLGW:
“When ordered, temporary outages will begin in the areas of North of Downtown, vicinity of Ben Hooks Library, and North Germantown. If necessary, the next areas affected will be areas near Central Gardens/Midtown, Getwell & 240, South Germantown/Winchester and East Germantown/West Collierville. As needed, we will rotate in 30-minute intervals throughout the rest of the service area. As soon as the Step 50 order is recalled, MLGW will notify customers and restore power.”
#MLGW is preparing for the possibility for TVA to re-issue a Step 50 Curtailment. As early as 6 p.m., MLGW may have to reinstitute system wide "rolling blackouts". pic.twitter.com/mqeTcNsvjW

This means that service to an area will be interrupted for 30 minutes. Customers may experience outages up to two times a day on average.
Critical facilities such as water pumping stations, sewage treatment plants, hospitals and airports are excluded from these blackouts.
Please do not call unless your outage lasts more than an hour.
MLGW will notify the public when Step 50 has been terminated.
We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience.
