Breaking: Local Sheriff Announces Retirement

Tipton County Sheriff J.T. “Pancho” Chumley announced today that he is retiring.  Chumley, who has spent the last 15 years as the Sheriff, will continue to serve through the end of August.

The tenure as Sheriff is one of the high points of a law enforcement career that spans 34 years.  Chumley attended the Tennessee Law Enforcement Academy at the the of 19 and graduated the FBI National Academy in 2000.

According to a Tipton County press release, Chief Deputy Shannon Beasley will assume the role as of September 1 until the County Commissioner fills the role.  Whoever is appointed will then complete Sheriff Chumley’s term, which runs until the general election of August, 2022.
