If Memphis music fans plan to attend the 2021 Mempho Music Festival they must show photo identification as well as a vaccination card.“The safety of our patrons, artists, and staff is our number one priority,” festival organizers announced on Thursday. “As such, proof of a full COVID-19 vaccination or negative COVID-19 test result, along with your ID, will be required to attend the 2021 Mempho Music Festival.”
For patrons who are not fully vaccinated, a negative COVID-19 test result must be obtained within 48 hours of attending Mempho Fest, they noted.
“Simply put, the most efficient way to gain entry into the festival is to get vaccinated,” organizers warned. “If you plan to get vaccinated prior to attending Mempho Fest, the last day to receive the second shot of Pfizer or Moderna, or the single shot of Johnson and Johnson is Friday, September 17th.”
The reaction among music fans was mixed.CLICK HERE TO FOLLOW KWAM ON FACEBOOK!
“Super disappointing,” one concert-goer said. “Medical segregation is still segregation.”
Many praised the festival’s decision.“I’ve been waiting for there to be real world consequences for people who refuse vaccination,” one man wrote on Facebook. “I mean…you know beyond needlessly dying of a totally preventable viral infection.”
Other fans correctly pointed out that even vaccinated attendees could end up either spreading the virus or coming down with the virus.
“What’s really stupid is you’re not testing the people who are vaccinated since they are spreading the same virus as those unvaccinated, you’re safer sitting next to a non-vaccinated person then you are sitting next to a vaccinated person again the hypocrisy is mind-boggling,” one fan pointed out.
