A new Shelby County health order is strongly urging everyone to wear masks for all indoor public settings.

Health Order No. 24 is the updated health directive from the Shelby County Health Department, laying out a list of strong recommendations from mask-wearing to COVID-19 testing. The order goes into effect at noon Tuesday and remains in effect until Aug. 31.

The order strongly recommends anyone eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine to get vaccinated. It also encourages employers to require frequent COVID-19 testing for unvaccinated employees.

While the new health directive does not mandate mask-wearing, the Memphis City Council will meet Tuesday afternoon to consider a call to reinstitute mandatory masking across Memphis.
