Restaurants and bars across Memphis and Shelby County are bracing for another partial shutdown haver health officials warned of an uptick in Coronavirus cases.

Memphis City Councilman Dr. Jeff Warren told Fox 13 that they need to figure out where the “problems are and close them down.”

The thought of a potential second lockdown on local businesses during the coronavirus pandemic infuriated many KWAM THE MIGHTY 990 listeners on the official Facebook page. Here’s what some of them said:

  • “There would be a spike in Morons if we increased IQ testing too.”
  • “Absurd and we the people should stand up and say No. Our economy cannot handle another shutdown. This is political and only the number of deaths should be the measurement.”
  • “I think it’s bull crap and businesses should keep their doors open. Last I checked we were still a free country.”
  • “If you’re trying to destroy the economy of Memphis, that should do it. Where is tax money going to come from if everyone is broke? How will you pay city and Shelby county employees? You might want to rethink this.”
  • “More cases isn’t a bad thing. It’s the deaths we need to be watching.”

The county reported 405 new cases Sunday, July 5. Dr. Warren said in the same Zoom interview that the health department can close a business if it deems it a “public health nuisance.”
