Memphis Police Officer Shot Multiple Times, Gunman Dead

DEVELOPING STORY: A Memphis police officer was shot multiple times Monday night at a Valero gas station in the Oakhaven neighborhood. The gunman who opened fire on the officer is dead.
The shooting happened before 10 p.m. near Winchester Road and Lamar Avenue.
The Memphis Police Dept. said in a Twitter message the officer was shot “multiple times” and was transported to Regional One Hospital.
Video posted on social media shows at least a dozen squad cars escorting the ambulance carrying the officer to the hospital.
“Something really really bad is happening,” said a person videoing the scene.
“The subject who fired shots at the officer was also struck and pronounced dead at the scene,” the police dept. said. “The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has been contacted and will investigate this incident.”

The Memphis Police Department est.1827 says the officer was shot at the Valero gas station on Winchester Road near the intersection of Lamar in South Memphis Monday evening.
