Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett, a Republican, was arrested Friday night after leaving Bonnaroo. He was charged with driving under the influence.Click here to sign up for breaking news alerts!
Tullahoma police stopped the secretary of state around 11:30 p.m. He was then given a blood test and then arrested.
Hargett said in a statement that he regretted the “circumstances that led to my arrest.”
The secretary of state did not apologize.
“On Friday night, after leaving the Bonnaroo Music Festival, I was stopped by the Tullahoma Police Department and subsequently arrested for DUI. Driving Under the Influence is a serious matter, and I regret the circumstances that led to my arrest. I respect law enforcement and trust the legal process as we move forward.”
He was was booked in the Coffee County Jail shortly after midnight where he posted posted a $2,000 bail.
J.Cole, The Chicks and Illenium were among the acts which performed at the annual music festival on Friday night.It’s unclear whether the 53-year-old is an aficionado of electronic dance music, rap, or feminist country music crooners.
It seems like an apology may also be in order for his taste in music.
