Yesterday, the Shelby County Commission approved a plan to study the feasibility of reparations by spending $5 million that had been designated for the COVID pandemic. But it that could be against the law.

State Sen. Brent Taylor said he’s been in touch with the state Comptroller’s office to discuss the legality of the plan.

“I will be watching carefully for any resolutions from the County Commission that do not treat all Shelby Countians equally. The General Assembly will ensure that laws passed in Tennessee remain equally applied to all and not based on one’s immutable characteristics,” Taylor said in a statement.
