Memphis city council candidate Jerred Price told KWAM Wednesday he’s in favor of closing bars early to combat crime happening downtown.
Price joins a growing number of city officials — including Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland – who support the measure following the violence that occurred over the weekend.
“Beale Street needs to close earlier than what it does,” Price told KWAM hosts Ben Deeter and Todd Starnes.#PRICEisRightForMemphis ~ Thank you, Memphis Police Association Union, for your support and believing in me. #ENDORSED Let’s work together and make our communities safer and focus on more community policing starting day 1! Strickland told FOX 13 he supports closing bars and shops on the iconic street around midnight.
Price, former Downtown Neighborhood Association president, called the midnight curfew “a little excessive,” instead recommending bars close down around 2 a.m.Price added nothing good ever happens with people out that late after three a.m.
