Councilman Colvett: Let’s Not Jump to Conclusions Before Body Cam Footage

People need to let the process of the law play out legally before jumping to conclusions, Memphis City Councilman Frank Colvett told “Wake Up Memphis” Tuesday.

This all comes after the death of Tyre Nichols on January 7th, after being pulled over for reckless driving.

There was an altercation between Nichols and the officers which resulted in him being taken to the hospital for shortness of breath, police have said. Nichols later passed away from his injuries.

Many activists and members of the Nichols family have demanded the body cam footage to be released immediately.

Councilman Colvett says there is a legal process that must occur before the video is released.

“I know everybody wants the video and wants to get this solved right now and find out what’s going on,” he said. “But there are steps in that process that we have to follow. While this is clearly terrible and tragic, let’s ought not jump to conclusions.”
