County Commissioners Consider TikTok Ban

The Shelby County Board of Commissioners are looking to approve a resolution to ban TikTok, the first local government in Tennessee to do so.

Commissioner Mick Wright introduced the resolution which states that county employees will be prohibited from downloading the app from any county-issued device.

However, this does not extend to employees’ personal devices.

The White House says they’re concerned the social media platform is being used by the Chinese government to harvest data on Americans.

Other counties — including Orange County, CA and Salt Lake County, Utah — have banned the Chinese-owned app on county-issued devices.
