UPDATE: The Grizzlies have suspended Ja Morant from all team activities, NBC News reports.
“We are aware of the social media video involving Ja Morant,” the Grizzlies said in a statement Sunday morning. “He is suspended from all team activities pending League review. We have no further comment at this time.”ORIGINAL STORY: Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant is back in the headlines for all the wrong reasons.
The troubled professional athlete was featured on an Instagram Live video purportedly waving a gun inside a car. Watch the video below.
“There’s no way in the world you should be seen flashing a gun,” said WMC sports anchor Doc Holliday. “What do I have to say? Speechless.”
Saturday’s video was posted more than two months after the 23-year-old flashed a gun during an Instagram Live video in a Denver-area strip club that led an eight-game suspension.“Ja’s conduct was irresponsible, reckless and potentially very dangerous,” NBA commissioner Adam Silver said in a statement at the time. “It also has serious consequences given his enormous following and influence, particularly among young fans who look up to him.
Morant also checked himself into a therapy program — which clearly had no impact.
“We are aware of the social media post involving Ja Morant and are in the process of gathering more information,” a NBA spokesman said in a statement.Holliday said he was left speechless and extremely disappointed.
“Star athletes have a warped reality,” he said. “They get away with things.”
