‘DARK DAYS’: Former DA Weirich Weighs in on Tyre Nichols Case

Former Memphis District Attorney Amy Weirich gave a behind-the-scenes look into the Tyre Nichols case Friday on “Wake Up Memphis.”

Ahead of the video release, Weirich, the special counsel for the 25th Judicial District Attorney General’s Office, told host Ben Deeter, “my heart breaks for the Nichols family.”

While she said she understood why the public wants to see the footage, Weirich urged the public to be patient to ensure the investigation remains impartial for the victim and the accused.

“There are rules and procedures in place to protect the integrity of the process,” she pointed out. “We can’t release information to the public before it is made available in the court.”

The Tyre Nichols case has caught the attention of the nation, and with the footage scheduled to release around 6 p.m. on Friday, various schools and businesses are shutting down in anticipation of the aftermath.

“Obviously, this is a dark, dark day and this has been dark, dark days for the city of Memphis,” Weirich said.
