Dem Accuses GOP of Breaking House Rules Everyday

Expulsion should not happen for breaking House decorum rules when Republicans break them every day, State Rep. Antonio Parkinson (D-Memphis) told KWAM Monday.

Former State Reps. Justin Jones (D-Nashville) and Justin Pearson (D-Memphis) were expelled from the statehouse last week for disrupting the House floor.

Parkinson called out opposing members of the House for not mentioning expulsion for Republicans.

“Rules are broken every single time we go into them chambers,” Parkinson told “Wake Up Memphis” host Todd Starnes. “They made a point about them bringing a bullhorn into the house chambers. There are members who have guns on their backs inside of the house chambers. That’s not only against the rules, but it’s against the law.”

Parkinson did admit, however, that he also has not reported it.

He said he has no issue with it personally but found it hypocritical that Republicans were so quick to expel Jones and Pearson for much less.

“If you know that people are breaking the rules, why are you expelling these members for breaking slight rules?” Parkinson said.
