Downtown Memphis Hard Rock Cafe Closing Amid Rise in Crime

The Hard Rock Cafe on Beale Street in Memphis is closing its doors.

The popular restaurant has been on Beale since 1997, and there’s no word at this time on what exactly caused the restaurant to close.

KWAM radio host Todd Starnes pointed to “off the charts” crime in downtown.

“The reason why the Memphis City Council refuses to address crime is because they are anti-business. They don’t want Memphians to live the American dream. They want them reliant on a government handout,” Starnes said on “Wake Up Memphis” Thursday.

While many blame the rise in crime, others said the food was average and the service was lousy.

The Hard Rock Cafe’s last day will be July 30 and will leave 52 employees jobless, according to the Labor Department.

The popular chain said it is open to another Memphis location if they can find the “right space.”

“In July 2023, the lease for Hard Rock Cafe Memphis, located at 126 Beale Street, will expire. The location will permanently close as a result. We are currently expanding operations in 50 locations within the next five years and are open to having another location within the Memphis market if the right space can be identified,” the restaurant told WREG.
