MLGW is in the middle of its five-year-long plan to improve the power grid in the city, MLGW President Doug McGowen told KWAM’s “Wake Up Memphis.”
Even though McGowen could’ve moved anywhere with his family following his US Navy service, he chose to stay in the Bluff City.

Since taking the job in December, McGowen has had a long stretch of crazy weather and massive power outages.
“We have infrastructure that’s more than 80 years old in some of the neighborhoods and that is not acceptable,” he said of the problems MLGW had already been facing when he took office.
