FAA Warns Memphis Intl to Prepare to Cut Flights

DEVELOPING STORY: The Federal Aviation Administration will require airlines to begin cutting flights from at least 40 airports starting as early as Friday morning. Memphis International Airport is on the list.
Airlines will be ordered to cut at least four percent of their flights per day until the reach a maximum of 10 percent by early next week.
The flight cuts are the result of the Schumer Shutdown. Neither air traffic controllers nor TSA agents have received a paycheck in more than a month.
Commercial pilot Lee Mills told Newsmax that the Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy’s decision is a big deal.
“The number one priority is safety and I think that by reducing the amount of flights he’s helping maintain the amount of safety because in aviation safety is number one and number two and the most important thing we think about,” Mills said.
“A reduction in capacity is helping because we don’t have the controllers that we have, normally have, and so we have to do something,” he added.
The list is not final, and it still could change as the FAA has not issued a final order formally requiring airlines to cut their capacity.
