A Southern Baptist church in Tennessee made sure that first responders had turkeys on the table for Thanksgiving.
“As a first responder we recognize that it is your job to put other’s needs before your own,” Germantown Baptist Church wrote on its website. “That’s why our church family is honored to give back to our local first responders with a turkey giveaway every year! It’s our way of saying, ‘Thank You’ for all you do for our community.”Church members presented free turkeys to the Germantown Police and Fire Departments along with the Collierville Police Dept. and Fire and Rescue.
The two cities are suburbs of Memphis.
“It gives us a chance to say “thank you.” We could never, even a few turkeys, could never say thank you enough. We want to be able to say thank you and give back to our first responders. They do so much to sacrifice for us, not only them, but their families too,” Senior Pastor Matt Brown told television station WMC.
The annual tradition was birthed in a Sunday school class and now includes the entire congregation.WMC reports as many as 350 turkeys were presented to first responders.
