A Republican lawmaker is suggesting the state add another capital punishment method: “hanging by a tree.”
Right now, death row inmates have the option of dying by lethal injection or the electric chair.

Paul Sherrell (R – Sparta) made the suggestion during a committee hearing over a bill that would allow death row inmates to choose if they want to die by a firing squad.
“Could I put an amendment on that? It would include hanging by a tree, also.” Sherrell asked the House Criminal Justice Committee Tuesday.

The bill advanced Tuesday and will head to the Finance, Ways, and Means Committee.
