Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee (R) has signed an executive order called the Transportation Modernization Act that will add “choice lanes,” otherwise known as toll lanes, to The Volunteer State.
Gov. Lee tweeted that the bill will help communities all across the state and prepare for “continued growth, without new taxes or debt.”

Many state lawmakers and groups in both political parties have critiqued Gov. Lee’s plan for “choice lanes,” citing the state’s inability to take care of its own roads and that they’re masking the face that these “choice lanes” are really tolls.
.@GovBillLee & @myTDOT think they can trick TN families into thinking Lee’s so-called “Transportation Modernization Act” (HB321) isn’t creating toll roads. His bill literally only changes the word from “tolling” to “user fees.” It’s comical how little effort they’re making here. pic.twitter.com/Hxp7mZ43RV

Their justification for the need for toll roads. I’ll interpret….
“Tennessee is so prosperous, so attractive, and has created so many jobs, that we can’t afford to build our own roads.”
I have never seen someone that can lay on the BS thicker than @govbilllee pic.twitter.com/WDZ4PkuEF0
