Students and faculty at St. Mary’s Episcopal School are mourning the loss of their beloved teacher, Eliza Fletcher.

“We are heartbroken at the loss of our beloved teacher, colleague, and friend Liza Fletcher,” the school wrote on its Facebook page. “Our hearts are with the Fletcher, Orgill, and Wellford families.”

Mrs. Fletcher was a junior kindergarten teacher at the school. A video of her singing, “This Little Light of Mine” has gone viral in the days since she was kidnapped. Nearly 200,000 people have viewed the video on KWAM’s Twitter page.

The song has a special meaning for the faculty and students as it is performed every week in Early Childhood Chapel.

“This morning our faculty and staff started the day in chapel,” the school wrote on Facebook. “We lit candles to remember Liza who was a bright light in our community. Liza embodied the song that we sing every week in Early Childhood chapel, ‘This little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine.'”

The St. Mary’s family drew additional strength from an all-school reading of “The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse” by Charlie Mackesy.

“‘We don’t know about tomorrow,’ said the horse, ‘all we need to know is that we love each other.’”
