Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy (D) said he’s kept his promise to hire more black staffers in an effort to reduce crime across Memphis.

Mulroy held a press conference yesterday to brag about the accomplishments made within his office over the last year.

“Among staff, persons of color increased 10 percent, from 30 percent to 40 percent. Among prosecutors, the increase was by a third, from 15 percent to 20 percent. The number of attorney supervisors of color has doubled,” Mulroy touted.

The DA admitted the challenges of last year, citing the cases of Eliza Fletcher and Ezekiel Kelly.

“To say that this first year in office was challenging would be a stark understatement,” Mulroy added.
