“I’M SHOOK”: Eyewitness Details Kroger Purse Snatching Attempt

An East Memphis woman was attacked by a thug at a Kroger in Germantown off Kirby and Poplar Thursday evening.

An eyewitness named Kimberlee spoke exclusively to KWAM host Ben Deeter on “Wake Up Memphis.” She was there and saw it unfold.

“Everybody was in shock. The employees were just so upset,” Kimberlee said. “One lady, she was in tears.”

She said the would-be thief walked up behind the shopper and tried to snatch her purse. The victim suffered a head injury, which Kroger employees and an off-duty medic addressed.

“This man comes out of nowhere and hits her in the back of the head,” the eyewitness said. “He had to of hit her with something.”

This comes as Memphis Police said the’ve seen a sharp increase of thieves targeting women in shopping areas across the city.

“Lately since all of this, the Saddle Creek incident, no I don’t feel comfortable and I have to walk my dogs at night,” she added. “I used to think, ‘oh I’m not worried about it, they’re not coming after me.’ I’m shook.”

Police are still looking for the man responsible for last night’s attack.
