Vice President Kamala Harris will attend the funeral of Tyre Nichols in Memphis Wednesday, the White House announced Tuesday

Other White House officials will join Harris at the funeral of Nichols, the 29-year-old man who died after being brutally beaten by five Memphis police officers.

Notorious political activist Al Sharpton will deliver the eulogy at Nichols’ funeral which will be held at Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church and is open to the public.

Nichols‘ mother and stepfather, RowVaughn Wells and Rodney Wells, invited the vice president who spoke to them on the phone Tuesday, according to her press secretary, Kirsten Allen.

President Biden spoke to Nichols’ parents over the phone last week ahead of the graphic footage being released to the public and told them he would make the case to Congress to pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act.

Five officers were fired and charged with second-degree murder, and two other officers have been placed on leave in connection to Nichols’ death.
