House Minority Leader Rep. Karen Camper (D-Memphis) told KWAM Monday her experience as a veteran has prepared her to be the next mayor of Memphis.

“I do feel like my military experience would help lead us into the future in a way that everybody would be proud of,” Camper told “Wake Up Memphis” hosts Ben Deeter and Todd Starnes.

Prior to running for office, Camper was the Chief Warrant Officer Three of the US Army. She is still involved in military affairs by being a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #11333 and a charter member of Women in Military Service for America.

“I’d do it all over again. I was pleased to serve. I served under the great Jim Baker when he was there. And he was another one that I looked up to in terms of being a statesman, a diplomat – trying to get things done.”
