Actor, producer and author Kirk Cameron told “Wake Up Memphis” with Ben Deeter that parents need to be proactive after backlash surrounding his latest children’s book, “As You Grow.”

As a part of his “Freedom Island” tour, Cameron was scheduled to hold book readings in both Tennessee and Arkansas.

However, the response has been the opposite of welcoming, thanks to LGBTQ+ activists.

He said the book that focuses on the “Fruit of the Spirit” was meant to offer an alternative to leftist indoctrination that has flooded public school libraries.

One library that reversed its initial rejection of Cameron’s event was located in Hendersonville, Tennessee. While the community welcomed Cameron’s book reading with hundreds lined up in the rain, some of the library staff sought to disrupt the reading.

Cameron described it as one librarian “banging books, kicking cabinets, playing loud music and talking while we were trying to do the work that we had to do.” That librarian was later removed from the staff.

“Start creating the culture you want for your kids,” Cameron said.
