Man Gunned Down Outside Memphis Kroger

DEVELOPING STORY: A man was shot and killed Sunday afternoon at a Kroger gas station on Riverdale Road. Eyewitnesses say as many as 15 shots were fired.

“First time in my life watching the paramedics trying to revive someone who was gun downed at my gas station,” eyewitness Ladia Yates said in an emotional Facebook Live video.

Yates said she was about to pull into the gas station but decided at the last minute to go to McDonalds. She owns a nearby dance studio.

“I can’t even talk I’m so rattled,” she said when she saw the man “on the ground dead. A whole crowd just saw somebody die.”

At 12:09 pm, officers responded to a shooting in the 4400 block of Riverdale. One adult male shooting victim was located and pronounced dead at the scene.

MPD said the man was pronounced dead on the scene. Preliminary information indicates the suspect escaped the scene in a dark-colored sports car.

“At Kroger, safety is our top priority for customers and associates. We are working with the local police department to help with this ongoing investigation,” the company said in a statement.

There have been an untold number of shootings at Kroger gas stations in the Memphis area in recent days. KWAM listeners are furious.

“It seems as if you can’t go anywhere in Memphis! Things are getting so out of hand,” one angry listener said.
