‘Wake Up Memphis’ host Robyn Walensky questions where millions of dollars went that the Memphis City Council gave to Shelby County Schools to reportedly spend on laptops for virtual learning.

“Where are the receipts?” she asks.

The enormous amount of money $5 million dollars came up as Memphis City Councilman Republican Frank Colvett Jr. updates the ‘Wake Up Memphis’ listeners on the latest city council meeting, in which the topic of a possible “cash grab” at the hands of Shelby County Schools was discussed.

District leaders approached the council asking for $5 million “specifically for laptops.”

“It appears they didn’t need the money in the first place,” Colvett tells Walensky. “We gave them money without the ability to say ‘Okay spend it here, here and here.'”

There appears to be interest in launching an investigation into the possibility the school system had the money it needed for the laptops before approaching the Memphis City Council.

Colvett Jr. tells Walensky “our liberal friends decided to throw money with no strings attached for technology for the kids to learn at home. The school system was on record a month before saying, ‘No, they have it fully funded.’”

Walensky points out the matter could be easily resolved if receipts for the laptops are produced.
