Will Memphis and Shelby County governments merge? Memphis City Council Chairman Frank Colvett talked about this possibility with Tim Van Horn on Wake Up Memphis today.
Consolidation was attempted just over a decade ago, with 85 percent of non-city residents rejecting it. The City Council voted yesterday to form a committee to study its impact and if it could pass a new vote. If put to a vote, it could as early as the November, 2022 ballot.
