In Memphis, ‘Crime is Cut in Half’: Sen. Brent Taylor

ICE is cooling things down in Memphis.
The city’s Safe Task Force surpassed its 100th day of operation this week. The team is composed of the Tennessee National Guard as well as other federal, state, and local law enforcement groups.
“I’m just glad crime is down,” State Sen. Brent Taylor (R) told Starnes County during a radio interview on Friday. “I like Memphis the way I like my sweet tea, and that’s with a lot of ice.” Listen to Taylor’s full interview here.
“There have been 5,500 arrests, 57,000 traffic stops, 1,300 recovered firearms, 733 vehicles recovered, crime is cut in half,” Taylor told Starnes. “And probably the most important statistic is the fact that they have rescued 135 missing kids.”
“People feel, Todd, that crime is down. And that’s the most important thing because perception is what drives people’s behavior,” he added.

In a thank-you note on X, Taylor said he is grateful to “law enforcement officers for putting your lives on the line to keep us safe! We have a city to save and YOU’RE doing it!”
“I knew that Memphis could be a safe place and we did not have to live with this culture of criminality,” he told Starnes. “And we did not have to put up with this lawlessness, that we deserve better. And it was just a matter of holding our leaders accountable to make sure that they allowed the police department to do what we know they could do best.”
Data from the Memphis Police Department analyzing 2025 crime rates shows a 26 percent decrease in murders, a 31percent decrease in robberies, and a 48 percent decrease in carjackings.
