The owner of a Memphis restaurant known for its “world famous barbecue tofu”  is going to play hardball with customers and employees.

Beginning in September, all diners at RP Tracks must show their vaccination papers, the Daily Memphian reports. Otherwise, they will not be allowed inside the diner.

“We would do it sooner except, first of all, we’re hoping that these crazy numbers are lower by then and it’s not something we have to do,” said co-owner Mary Laws told the Daily Memphian.

She also said that workers must either get the vaccine or find another place of employment.

“And we also have to get all our employees fully vaccinated before we require it of our guests,” she told the newspaper. “We’ve told them they have to get their vaccine or we’ll give them a letter of recommendation. There are plenty of restaurants hiring, so no one has to go without a job. But we’re going to have full compliance here.”

The restaurant serves something called a “southern fried tofu sandwich.”

“Pickle-brined tofu battered and fried to perfection, served on a brioche bun,” the restaurant wrote on its Facebook page.

Trust, us, KWAM listeners. There’s nothing “southern” about tofu — no matter how you fry it.

Their “animal friendly” menu also includes one of the greatest culinary heresies in Memphis – “barbecue tofu.”

And honestly, if RP Tracks is going to disrespect barbecue, I’m really not surprised they would do the same to their customers and staff.
