There are so many things that should be done with this out-of-control city, Memphis mayoral candidate JW Gibson told “Wake Up Memphis” Thursday.

With the ongoing lawlessness in the city, the mayoral hopeful believes the blame doesn’t fall solely on the police department.

“This is not an MPD problem, this is truly a community problem,” Gibson told KWAM host Ben Deeter. “We have got to come together as a community to address the crime issue that we’re facing. Memphis is unique from the perspective that when we come together, we can accomplish some great things.”

He added with the election not having an incumbent running, the opportunity for a real change is up to those who’ve decided they’ve had enough of the crime crisis.

“We have to stand up and fight back, we have to take back control of our city.”
