Memphis Restaurants Suffer Due to Uptick in Crime

Local restaurant owners in Memphis are demanding the city step in and protect their businesses and customers.

Mike Miller, President of the Memphis Restaurant Association, joined Wake Up Memphis” with Todd Starnes and Ben Deeter.

Businesses report their sales are suffering due to an increase in crimes like car thefts and car break-ins.

According to Memphis Police, those two crimes have nearly doubled from what they were at this time last year.

While some businesses have beefed up security, like adding more security cameras and hiring private security, others say that they can’t afford these extra measures.

“We’re just not seeing solutions being proposed,” Miller told KWAM.

The Memphis Restaurant Association is asking business owners and Memphians to head downtown to City Hall and share how crime is impacting their way of life.

“I think the city council needs to hear and the public needs to hear that this isn’t just somebody else’s problem, this is our problem as a community, and we need to find solutions,” Miller said.
