MISSING: Runner Kidnapped Near University of Memphis

University of Memphis students recieved a disturbing email Friday morning from school officials, alerting them of a kidnapping that occurred near campus.

Memphis police say Eliza Fletcher, 34, was jogging in the area of Central and Zach Curlin near the university just after 4 AM when someone forced her into an SUV.

 

Below is the alert sent to students.

A missing person report was made to the Memphis Police Department this morning, September 2, 2022 at 7:00 AM.  A woman who regularly runs on Central Avenue was reported missing after not returning home. Her cell phone and water bottle were discovered in front of a house in the 3800 block of Central that is owned by the University. A male approached her at approximately 4:30 AM in the middle of Central Avenue and appeared to leave with her in an unknown vehicle following a brief struggle.The University Police Department is assisting the Memphis Police Department in investigating this incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact the University Police or the Memphis Police Department.  The University Police can be contacted at 901-678-4357 (678-HELP).
