MLGW: It Could Be Days Until Power Restored

DEVELOPING STORY: MLGW customers have gone from frustrated to angry as they once again have to deal with a longterm power outage in the middle of a heat wave.

“F**k MLGW,” said one furious customer who made his frustrations known on a sign he was holding on a street corner.

“If you are moving to Memphis have a whole house generator installed you are going to need it,” another wrote.

MLGW says it may take several more days to fully restore power to Shelby County.

A severe thunderstorm with winds clocked at 60 mph brought down nearly a third of the power grid – which also knocked out air conditioning to tens of thousands of people in the middle of a heat wave.

“I would ask friends and family members to check on other friends and family members to make sure that they’re okay,” McGowen told the Daily Memphian. “And if you can accommodate them in your home or provide them some respite, please do that.”
