Carjackings have doubled in 2023, and repeat offenders are being caught and rereleased back onto the streets, according to law enforcement.
WMC Action News 5’s Joyce Peterson shared the MPD report that 5,573 cars have been stolen in 2023 so far, and we’re not even halfway through the year yet.
Due to Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy’s catch-and-release policies, local police have their hands tied.To hopefully help curb crime, the Memphis Police released an announcement that they are giving out steering wheel locks on May 23 to help protect vehicles from thieves.
