The Memphis Police Department (MPD) has put the city on high alert for a man who has been abducting and sexually assaulting young girls in the South Memphis area.

The suspect at large is a black male in his mid-20s and has been committing the abductions in a dark-colored SUV, according to a post Wednesday by the MPD.

Other similar crimes in the area that have been happening for several weeks are also believed to be connected to this suspect.

Now police have confirmed the FBI and the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office have joined their efforts to find this man.

Citizens have grown frustrated at rampant lawlessness in the city and blaming city leaders for the crime spike.

“If the city would actually have punishments for crimes and not a smack on the hand, maybe we wouldn’t have such a problem with all the crime sprees,” one commenter wrote in the MPD post. “If you do the crime, you do the time. Period.”
