New Renderings of Mississippi River Bridge Unveiled

The Arkansas Dept. of Transportation released updated renderings of “Kings’ Crossing,” the new bridge that will span the Mississippi River.

The new bridge honors Elvis Presley, Martin Luther King Jr. and B.B. King.

“Kings’ Crossing is more than just a piece of infrastructure; it is a symbol of our collective history, heritage, and the enduring spirit of unity that defines this region,” said TDOT Commissioner Will Reid. “Naming this bridge in honor of these gentlemen pays tribute to their extraordinary legacies – individuals who transcended barriers, fostered cultural exchange, and used their talents to build bridges between people.”

The DOT also reminded motorists that the existing Interstate 55 bridge will be closed from Nov. 15 until Nov. 16 so crews can make repairs to the bridge joints. Use the Interstate 40 bridge as an alternate route.

Construction of the new bridge is expected to begin in 2026.
