Here’s everything going on in the Mid-South:
  • Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland announced his pick for the next police chief for the city, Cerelyn Davis. She has been in law enforcement for over 25 years and was the police chief in Durham, North Carolina. The Memphis City Council will vote to confirm the mayor’s appointment next month.

 

  • Two people were injured in Memphis following separate shootings in Memphis overnight. One person was shot and injured at Willow Creek Apartments around midnight and was taken to the hospital in critical condition. In a separate incident another person was shot on Tillman Street in Binghampton.

 

  • Memphis man Glen Douglas has been arrested after damaging a Frayser convenience store using a bat. He used it to leave a trail of destruction behind him after an argument with the store’s cashier. The damage caused totals at least $15,000. Douglas is scheduled to be in court today.

 

  • A Memphis Police officer has been taken to the hospital in non-critical condition after being struck by a vehicle overnight. The officer was at Winchester and Lamar investigating a crash around midnight when another driver hit him. Reports are the driver did stop after hitting the officer.
