Here’s everything you need to know going on in the Mid-South:

  • A Memphis business owner applied to build a mosque on Church Road in Horn Lake, Mississippi, but the plan was rejected in February. The aldermen voted 5-1 to uphold that decision this week, their reasons being traffic concerns and possible noise ordinance violations.

 

  • A 14-year-old that was wanted in a deadly Memphis shooting was apprehended in Horn Lake, Mississippi on Wednesday. He’s been charged with second-degree murder following a shooting in the Parkway Village area. The man he shot on April 11 died in the hospital.

 

  • The Unborn Child Dignity Act is headed to Gov. Bill Lee’s (R-TN) desk that would require women to commit to in writing to either bury or cremate the unborn child’s remains after having an abortion. Tim Rudd of Rutherford County is the primary sponsor of the bill. It’s been approved by the Senate as of Wednesday morning, and now it’s up to Governor Lee to sign it.
