Here’s everything you need to know going on in the Mid-South:

  • Shelby County has now topped 1,000 coronavirus deaths since the start of the pandemic. The Memphis area is already dealing with running out of the newly distributed coronavirus vaccine. The county has over 72,000 cases so far.

 

  • Memphis Police are investigating the death of a 1-year-old girl in Whitehaven Thursday morning. Police responded to a distress call and found the girl dead in a home near East Holmes and Millbranch Road. Authorities say there were no signs of foul play, but investigation is still underway.

 

  • Early this morning two people were shot in Midtown at Walker Avenue and South Cooper Street. The two victims were taken to the hospital, one in critical condition and the other in non critical condition. we’ll keep you updated with the latest info as it’s released.

 

  • An Arkansas man photographed in the Capitol building has gone viral, and it appears he might have a Mid-South connection. Barnett claims to be a retired firefighter out of Memphis.The photo features Richard Barnett sitting in Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office chair while protesters stormed the Capitol on Wednesday.

 

  • Memphians are planning a protest this weekend to try to stop the opening of Petland store at The Commons at Wolfcreek. The animal activist group has already gotten over 10,000 signatures to oppose the store’s opening. Petland has a history of mistreating the puppies they sell, including being involved with puppy mills.
