Here’s everything you need to know going on in the Mid-South today:

  • Memphis Police have reported that there’s been six highway shootings in the past week alone in Shelby County. That’s almost a third of the total recorded so far this year. In the 21 shootings this year only 2 people have been arrested.

  • Tipton County announced yesterday that they’re lifting their mask mandate in the area. This was shortly after Tennessee Governor Bill Lee extended the ability for counties to mandate masks through April 28th of this year. However, the schools in the district will still be required to mask up. Here in Shelby County the mandate is still in effect.

  • The Memphis City Council is meeting today, and one of the topics they’re discussing is banning the sale of pets at retail stores. This was spurred on after a national pet store chain called Petland announced it was trying to open a front in the Memphis area. Petland has been accused of buying dogs from puppy mills.

  • The state of Tennessee has had to take over the distribution of the coronavirus vaccine in Shelby County after learning about the local health department’s mishandling of it. The state brought in eight transport coolers via a military chopper to get them here within hours. They also delivered a new fridge to Regional One.
