Here’s everything you need to know going on in the Mid-South today:

  • All lanes on the Hernando Desoto Bridge are now closed until further notice after inspection revealed a crack on the underside of the bridge. It’s been closed for emergency maintenance, and the Tennessee Department of Transportation reports the bridge will be closed “indefinitely.” For now, commuters can use the Interstate 55 bridge to cross the Mississippi River.

 

  • Gov. Bill Lee (TN-R) announced Tuesday that additional federal unemployment benefits that started during the coronavirus pandemic will end statewide on July 3. The program gave individuals $300 a week in extra unemployment benefits.

 

  • Memphis Police are investigating a shooting on Winchester Road Tuesday evening. Police found a man suffering from a gunshot wound, and he was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Reports are the suspects fled the scene in a white SUV.

 

  • Also Memphis Police are investigating another shooting that happened around 1 AM this morning on Carriage Lane where a male gunshot victim was found. He was taken to the hospital but didn’t survive his injuries. No suspects have been arrested yet.
