Here’s everything you need to know going on in the Mid-South:

  • Shelby County’s local health department finally announced the county-wide mask mandate is set to end next week. Masks will then be recommended, and private businesses can still require customers to wear them.The next health directive is set to be released May 12 and will go into effect May 15.

 

  • The Memphis City Council voted in approval of Memphis’ proposed new police chief, Cerelyn ‘CJ’ Davis on Tuesday. The candidate was chosen by Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland, and she will start the job June 15th.

 

  • Marquavious Watson has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault and reckless endangerment after allegedly shooting his ex-girlfriend’s car on I-40 Tuesday. The victim lost control of the car and hit a guardrail before hitting a concrete barrier. The other passenger in the car was taken to the hospital in critical condition, and the ex-girlfriend was also taken there in non-critical condition.

 

  • A 15-year-old boy was found gunned down inside a vehicle Sunday evening in southwest Memphis. Memphis Police announced the incident Tuesday, and reports are the victim was found dead at the scene and suspects fled in a black 4-door sedan.
