Price: Memphis Will Lose Millions Due to an Unpopular Park Remodel

Former president of the Downtown Neighborhood Association Jerred Price is calling to dissolve the group responsible for the makeover of Tom Lee Park for sabotaging Memphis in May (MIM).

A deal has yet to be reached between MIM and the Memphis River Parks Partnership (MRPP) to return the music festival and BBQ cooking contest back to its original home, Tom Lee Park.

The $62 million renovation project downsized the beloved downtown park by 40%, which has left MIM scrambling to figure out how to fit thousands of people in the newly renovated area.

“So because we’re going to remodel a park that the majority of public did not support this extensive of a remodel… We’re going to lose potentially millions in economic dollars all because of a park remodel,” Price told “Wake Up Memphis” Thursday.

City councilman Martavius Jones has also threatened to dissolve the group if they don’t reach a deal soon.

“Less people in Memphis during those festivals, that means less hotel rooms, less customers for our businesses in the city and less tax dollars,” Price added.
